  1. The poetry format and alternating viewpoints work very well in this book. I enjoyed both girls' voices and appreciated seeing the pivotal event from both perspectives. The format, plot twists, and hidden elements make this a quick read.

  2. Very strong story and heart-rending. Strong Newbery candidate, I think, due to the well-developed characters, great plot and literary devices used. At the end of the story, the author explains the poetic form she used which was really cool.

  3. This book was a difficult call for me since I am not a big fan of novels in verse. Yet I overcoming my prejudice and decided I like this one. The verse works well here. I was pleasantly surprised at how much detail Frost included in the short verses. I could see this being seriously considered for Newbery.

  4. I liked how at first, you were only shown one side, and you were all on Wren's side, but as you go further in, the line becomes blurry, and I ended up loving both characters, and not having a sure favorite (though for quite some time, it was Darra who I liked more than Wren). I liked the hidden message, telling more of the story. This book was really good

  5. Putting it in the verse-novel style didn't make it any more interesting to me than any other teen story of a clique situation where the two "enemies" become "friends."
