Wildwood by Colin Meloy
Balzer + Bray
2011
541p.
When her baby brother is kidnapped by crows, seventh-grader Prue McKeel ventures into the forbidden Impassable Wilderness--a dangerous and magical forest in the middle of Portland, Oregon--and soon finds herself involved in a war among the various inhabitants.
From the description, you'd think this book was about a girl named Prue. But it isn't. Although she's in the book, she's definitely a secondary character. This book is about her "friend" Curtis. They are not really friends as he still draws superheroes which everyone considers childish. What?
ReplyDeleteThere were a few good parts in this book, but for the most part, I just wanted to be done with it. It was drawn out and reminded me of many other books I'd read, but not in a charming, familiar way, but in a this will never be as good way.
I've got a student or two in mind I'd like to hand it to, see what they think. Maybe I'm just too jaded?
