  1. The Emerald Atlas--A fun series, clear comparison to Narnia w/ multiple siblings (but no religious undertones here). Thought it was well-done but mostly just a page-turner. Looking forward to reading the others in the series & have been recommending this one to young fantasy readers.

  2. I agree, Athenagirl, it was fun but not the level for the Newbery. I'm sure the students will love it and I look forward to hearing their discussions.

I reviewed Emerald Atlas on my blog.

  3. I'm about halfway through this book and am finding it a bit disappointing. I actually found the few chapters before the magical world was introduced to be more charming and enjoyable than the ones that followed. If as I reader I would prefer to go back to the "real" world, I think that's a sign that something about the fantasy world isn't working.
Perhaps a notch about run-of-the-mill contemporary fantasy, but not Newbery worthy from what I can tell so far. I will keep reading and check back in if my opinion changes... :)

  4. This is a book exploding with action, magic, mystical creatures, and a little betrayal. Definetly a must read! I hope you enjoy the Emerald Atlas as much as i did!
