  1. For me, this book has a lot of strong components like a sensible plot, strong characterizations and imagination out the wazoo. However, those same components also detract from the tale at times--the plot is a bit predictable, there are too many characters introduced at the very beginning and the author's imagination is so big it was a little over the top for me. About 50 pages could be edited to create a stronger book. This will not win the Newbery, but it is still an okay read.
