  1. Looking at the back cover of this book and by checking the authors website, I think this book is not eligible for Newbery. Ness was born in US, but is now a English citizen with residence in London. He doesn't mention a home anywhere else.
So he misses on the residence requirement. The book does look interesting. I've seen on a few blogs that it might be a contender for the Prinz. If Prinz doesn't require an American residence, he may win.

  2. Finished reading this and I LOVED it! It's the kind of story that stays with you. I'll be recommending this book to lots of people. It's worth the read even if it's not on the possible Newbery list.

  3. Powerful images and language, but I found the sadness of the book a little too overwhelming to make it an absolute favorite. Amazing language and imagery though, and great message about the power of stories.
